Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of Early Neurological Stimulation?
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is a foundation pillar in our program. The benefits of ENS include improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands.
More tolerance to stress and greater resistance to disease.
How do I pick my puppy?
First step is to fill out an application, I will contact you for a phone interview, and once both parties are happy you will be asked to place a deposit to secure your spot/pup.
Picks are done when puppies are 5-6 weeks of age so we can better evaluate each pups energy and personalities. This is done so as to help pup parents choose the pup that best suits their lifestyle.
What if I want to keep my puppy's tail?
Tail docking needs to be done a few days after birth.
Since puppy picks are not until 5-6 weeks of age, we cannot offer this service.
Additionally some of our puppies will be genetically predisposed to be born with a natural docked tail.
What is MDR1?
Multi Drug Resistance Disorder (MDR1) is a common disorder among all herding breeds, however 70 % of all Aussies possess this gene.
MDR1 refers to a specific mutation that can occur at a gene known as the MDR1 gene, also known as the ABCB1 gene. "a mutation at the MDR1 gene that makes them more sensitive to the negative effects of certain medications.”
This means that particular medications can have adverse even fatal reactions to dogs who have MDR1.
Each breeding is done so with the puppies health in mind. We never breed a carrier to a carrier so as to ensure that no pups run the risk of inheriting two copies of the gene.
Why do you breed dogs with MDR1 then?
Since 70+% of all Australian Shepherds possess the gene it would be extremely limiting on the gene pool to try to breed it out in it's entirety.
Further, the gene is not truly a genetic disorder, as it does not effect the dog unless it's administered particular medications that we use in this day and age, ones that were not present 100's of years ago.
It is always safe to air on the side of caution and never give ANY herding breeds medications on the MDR1 DO NOT administer list.
*However majority of the medications on this list will only be able to be administered by your veterinarian.
